Under 14 Blues set for County Cup final this Sunday

Sunday 23rd April 2023

Best of luck to Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 14 Blue, who face Swindon Supermarine White in the Wiltshire County Cup final this Sunday, 30 April.

The game takes place at the Wiltshire FA's Green Lane Playing Fields facility, 10.30am kick off.

After finishing as North Wilts League Division One runners-up in 2021-22 and Division Two champions the year before, Bassett are guaranteed honours for the third consecutive season.

And they will be hoping that impressive hat trick will be capped off by lifting the County Cup trophy.

But a tough test awaits against a Supermarine side who still have hopes of achieiving a league and County Cup double, and who edged out Bassett 3-2 in their only league meeting of the season so far.

Bassett have been in impressive form throughout their journey to the final, recording big victories in all four games they have played.

The Blues' run started with a 7-1 thrashing of Wanborough Junior Black, with Phanuel Asenso scoring a hat trick and Indy Iles-Jones, Finlay Mowe and Lewis Small also on target.

After a walkover win against AFC Haydon Vale, Bassett scored nine without reply in their third round tie against Bradford Town Sharks. Grejdi Murati led the way with a hat trick, with Asenso (2), Mowe (2), Small and Austin Tanner completing the scoring.

In the last sixteen, Bassett beat North Wilts League Division One title favourites Robins 7-2, producing arguably their best performance of the season. Asenso (3), Theo Slade (2), Karol Czekanski and Liam Lye-Owens scored for Bassett as they sailed through.

Bassett were handed another walkover in their quarter final tie against Blunsdon, before five unanswered goals against Devizes Town sealed their place in the final as Asenso (2), Czekanski (2) and Rhys Poulton found the net.

Supermarine's have also been high scorers en route to their place in the final. In the opening round they beat Kingsdown Lions Black 14-0 before seeing off FC Chippenham Youth Tigers 8-0 in the third round having received a second round walkover.

In the fourth round they thrashed Trowbridge Wanderers Allstars 14-0 away from home before a narrower 3-1 quarter final home win against Melksham Town Hurricanes.

Supermarine then booked their place in the final by beating AFC Corsham 2-0.

It promises to be a fantastic final between two attacking sides.

Please do come along to Devizes to cheer Bassett on!
