The club has restructured its Community Football programme, which ran successfully over the last few seasons, taking on board a newly acquired partnership with Advanced Sports Coaching Ltd and Reading FC by creating a Soccer Skills Academy.
Started in January 2012, the Soccer Skills Academy initiative will be run under the RWBTFC banner, with coaching sessions led by members of the Reading FC Academy. Working within the local community, the coaching will be aimed at boys and girls of all abilities from 4 years old all the way through to those in school year 10.
The emphasis of the sessions will be on healthy development, learning new skills - both football and social, and - most importantly of all - having fun.
There will also be the opportunity to progress into the Reading Academy system, while it is hoped that the youngest players will continue their football with Bassett and form one to two under 7 and 8 feeder teams for the youth section.
Soccer Skills Academy run weekly sessions on a Monday night on the 3G pitch at the New Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, which cost £25 per calendar month (or £35 per calendar month for two or more children from the same family).
Footy Tots sessions (for those aged 3 through to school year one) take place from 5 - 5.45pm, while those for boys and girls from years 2 through 10 take place from 6 - 7pm.
Please note that Footy Tots sessions move indoors to the Lime Kiln Sports Centre throughout the winter months.
Having noticed the demand among girls of all abilities for football, a Girls Soccer Skills Academy is being launched to offer additional training to complement that currently received by girls elsewhere. There are free taster sessions available for the Girls' sessions.
The Soccer Skills Academy is also looking to welcome more boys and girls who will be entering reception year at school next year. It is then planned for this cohort to form the club’s Under 7s for the 2017-18 season.
Session times for Monday's are as follows:
Each school holiday Soccer Skills Academy runs football fun week holiday clubs, allowing participants to experience a coaching programme across 3 or 4 days. These fun weeks allow us to further develop players' skills learnt at their own team sessions and on the Monday evening sessions. The aim of these sessions is to make new friends from other schools, have fun and learn new skills through games, competitions and matches.
At the end of the course each participant leaves with a memento of their time on the course and there are lots of prizes and trophies to be handed out.
The fun weeks are again open to school years reception through 10.
The next holiday sessions to be run will take place on the following days:
To book a place on any of these course please download, complete and return the application form along with the relevant payment to the address specified on the form.
Part of our Community commitment is to establish strong links with local schools, offering fully funded coaching sessions to pupils through after-school and in-school sessions depending on the individual school's needs/requirements. Each participating school in the project receives a pack of equipment from the FA to use in the further delivery of football at their school. Community Football also offers each school the opportunity to continue the sessions by providing a coach each week after the project ends (small charge per participant).
For more information on any of the above sessions please contact Nick Bolton at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that all sessions are available on a first come first served basis.
