Serial winners at it again

Serial player of the year award winners Laura Jefferies, Darcy Cox and Millie Powell once again claimed prizes as Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Women's First Team celebrated the 2024-25 season at their presentation evening. They were joined in the winners' circle by Honor Fraser as Bassett's back line stole the show.

The awards meant three defenders and a goalkeeper claimed the four prizes on offer - with the team's strong defensive play proving vital as they finished third in South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North.

All-time leading appearance maker Jefferies received the Players' award as she collected her sixth Player of the Year prize.

She remains a consistent, quality performer, using her experience to lead the defence while also serving as a threat at the other end of the pitch thanks to her expert set piece skills. In 26 games in 2024-25, Jefferies scored four times while also contributing multiple assists.

Young centre half Cox was named both Players' and Supporters' Player of the Year last season - her debut campaign with Bassett. And she added the 2024-25 Manager's prize to her collection after another hugely impressive year in which she featured 26 times.

Like Cox, 2024-25 was full back Fraser's second year with Bassett. And her strong development continued in a season in which she was her team's joint-leading appearance maker after playing 27 times.

A player who executed her defensive duties well, Fraser also showed her attacking potential, scoring three goals - including Bassett's vital third goal in their draw away at unbeaten league champions Gloucester United. Her efforts allowed her to claim the Coaches' Player of the Year award.

Powell, meanwhile, was named Supporters' Player of the Year, adding to the Manager's and Players' Player of the Year double that Powell achieved in her debut season with Bassett in 2021-22.

The 'keeper enjoyed another excellent season. Appearing 26 times in all competitions while missing just two cup fixtures, she kept eight clean sheets and made countless important saves throughout the year.

Powell also scored her first goal in Bassett colours, netting in an outfield appearance as a substitute in the Wiltshire County Cup victory against Staverton Rangers.

The unexpected closure of the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground meant the event took place at Steam in Old Town. Huge thanks go to the staff at Steam for accommodating the event at short notice.
