Weekend preview: Over 50s set for Sunday title decider

Tuesday 6th May 2025

It's a huge game for Royal Wootton Bassett Town Over 50s on Sunday as they host Bicester Town in a game that will decide the destination of the Oxfordshire Veterans League Division Two title.

The division's top two teams square off on the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground AGP, 4pm kick off.

Since entering the Oxfordshire Veterans League for the first time in 2020-21, Bassett have typically struggled. This year, however, has been a completely different story.

Not only have Bassett been competitive, but they enter their final game of the season still with a chance of claiming the Division Two title.

All three outcomes could lead to different champions being crowned.

Victory for Bicester on Sunday will see them seal the title.

A draw would keep Bicester top, though leave the door open for Cookham Dean who would need to win their final two games to finish as champions.

A win for Bassett would take them to the summit. Again though, Cookham Dean would pip them if they take maximum points from their remaining fixtures, with their final game - a contest against AFC Henley who themselves could still finish in the top three, scheduled for Sunday 25 May.

Regardless of the outcome and whether Bassett finish first, second or third in the table, this has been a fantastic season for the Over 50s.

Do come along on Sunday to show them your support!
