Veterans Super Saturday saw Royal Wootton Bassett Town host the Royal Air Force FA for a pair of fixtures. And the event, held to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund, was a big success on and off the field.
The fifth edition of the event kicked off with an Over 50s fixture played in memory of David 'Geordie' Salkeld. And a close encounter ended all square, the teams drawing 1-1 with Andy Huggins on target for Bassett.
Bassett had the upper hand throughout the subsequent Over 35s contest, which was being played in memory of Jason 'Franners' Francis. The hosts ran out 4-1 winners courtesy of a Chris Head brace and further goals from Ian Carr and Neil Snow.
A hugely entertaining social evening then followed in the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground clubhouse.
Huge thanks go to all who helped make the day - and evening - another huge success, from the players, to those helping with organisation and fundraising to those in attendance.
The highlight of the Veterans' Section calendar, we look forward to hosting the next edition of Super Saturday and seeing our friends from the RAF FA Veterans again soon!
