Weekend preview: Month of derbies begins with Vics visit

Four of Royal Wootton Bassett Town's five scheduled Hellenic League Premier Division fixtures in February are set to be local derbies - beginning with Saturday's trip to Malmesbury Victoria (3pm kick off.

Bassett head into the game, which will be held at Cirencester Town's Corinium Stadium, hoping to start a winning streak as Sam Collier's side seek to keep their playoff hopes on track.

And they can complete a season double over the Vics having triumphed 5-1 when they met at the Sustain Stadium.

Malmesbury go into the game bottom of the table, their season having been negatively impacted by unfortunate ground issues that have limited the number of games they have been able to play.

But Malmesbury earned a confidence boosting draw against Corsham Town last week - and will be fired up for another fixture against local rivals.

On Sunday the Women's First Team hit the road to take on Stockwood Wanderers in the South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North (2pm kick off).

Facing Stockwood for the first time this season, Bassett will be aiming to repeat the success they had against their opponents last year when they won all three of their meetings.

Meanwhile on Saturday the Development team also face an away trip as they travel to Park United in the Wiltshire League Premier Division (2pm kick off).

Mark Simpkins' team were 1-0 winners against Park earlier in the season. But, in their first year at this level, that loss was a rare setback for Park who are battling for a top five finish - in contrast to Bassett who are fighting for points required to stay out of danger at the other end of the table.
