Weekend preview: Homestand begins with Pegasus test

Wednesday 23rd October 2024

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Men's First Team play the first of three home fixtures in the space of a week on Saturday when they entertain Hereford Pegasus in the Hellenic League Premier Division (Sustain Stadium, 3pm kick off).

After a 1-0 home victory and 3-2 away triumph last season, Bassett are now unbeaten in their last seven league fixtures against Pegasus, a run that has seen them win six games in a row while conceding just three goals.

A tough game is in store though. While Pegasus' form has fallen away somewhat after a bright start, their league games have invariably been close affairs. As well as three draws, eight of their sixteen league games so far have been decided by just a single goal with a further three determined by a two goal margin.

On Sunday the Women's First Team visit Twerton Park to take on Bath City in the South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North (2pm kick off).

Division One East rivals last season, Bath were the only team who Bassett failed to beat in the league, falling to a 2-1 defeat away courtesy of a last minute goal before a 1-1 draw when the sides met in Wiltshire.

A first league victory against Bath is therefore the aim for Adam Wood's side.

Meanwhile on Saturday the Development team face a derby visit to Wroughton in the Wiltshire League Premier Division (3pm kick off).

While Wroughton are flying high in the table and in the title race, Bassett held them to a 3-3 draw when they met at the Sustain Stadium in August. And Mark Simpkins' team will be hoping to frustrate their opponents again as they seek to climb away from the danger zone.
