Under 13 Blues move to the top of the tree for Christmas

Monday 20th December 2021

Just four of Royal Wootton Bassett Town's youth sides were in competitive action on the final weekend before Christmas. Of those sides to play, the Under 13 Blues recorded the most consequential result, beating North Wilts League Division One leaders FC Calne Youth away from home - a result which moves Bassett into a share of first place with their opponents.

In a thrilling contest, goals from Finlay Mowe (2) and Theo Slade earned all three points for the visitors. Bassett have recorded an outstanding haul of 20 points from their opening nine fixtures - and they still possess a game in hand over Calne, which could see them take outright possession of top spot.

When play resumes in the new year, it's set to be a four-way battle for the title with Robins (18 points) and Swindon Supermarine White (12 points from five games) in the mix.

Although not ending in victory for Bassett's teams, the remaining three fixtures at competitive age groups were all closely-fought, exciting encounters.

In Division Five, the Under 12 Yellows climbed into second place after a 3-3 home draw against Ramsbury Youth.

It was also honours even in the Under 14 Blues' fixture as they shared four goals with visitors Wroughton Youth White in Division Two.

Finally, the Under 13 Yellows lost by the odd goal in five at home against Devizes Town Youth Titans. Fynn Crone and Jack McGeoch scored, but their goals were not enough to prevent Bassett's third loss of the season.

The Yellows still go into Christmas with their heads held high though as they sit second in Division Four.
