Under 12 Blues get back to winning ways

Tuesday 23rd November 2021

After two straight losses, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blue returned to winning ways in style on Sunday. They defeated Croft Junior Red 4-0 to snap out of their mini-funk and climb to sixth – just four points off their second-place opponents – in a congested, highly competitive North Wilts League Division Three.

Bassett won courtesy of Alex Greenouff's brace and additional goals from Mason Brooks and Harry Scott.

There were also wins this weekend for Bassett's Under 13 Yellow and Under 14 Blue sides.

The Under 13 Yellows defeated Swindon Supermarine Red 3-1 as Fynn Crone, Thomas Hyde and Lucas Namadila found the net. Meanwhile, the Under 14 Blues made it two wins in a row as Charlie Hancock and Leon Hudson scored to see off Fairford Town Youth 2-1.

Elsewhere, it was a frustrating week, with a number of narrow defeats.

The Under 14 Yellows (0-1 away against Stratton Juniors Cougars), Under 15 Blues (2-3 away at Marlborough Youth Eagles with goals from Beau Hicks and Finlay Marshall) and Under 16 Yellows (2-3 against Highworth Town Juniors H) all lost by the odd goal.

A report from the Under 16 Yellow's dramatic fixture – in which they led 2-1 through goals from Patrick Otoo-Mensah and Leo Neve before surrendering that advantage despite some heroics from 'keeper Joshua Moore – can be read here.

The Under 16 Blues were also involved in a tight Division One battle with FC Calne Youth Black, but succumbed to a 4-2 defeat.

And in cup action the Under 13 Blues bowed out of the second round with a 2-0 home loss against FC Calne.

YourSport Swindon subscribers can find coverage of that game on their website, including video and two sets of match photos.

Finally, there were heavy league defeats for the Under 18 Yellows, who lost 4-0 against Wroughton Youth, and the Under 12 Girls, who were beaten 8-3 by Kingsdown Lions.

A report from that latter game, in which Daisy Bundy scored a hat-trick, can be read here.

At the non-competitive age groups, four Bassett teams were engaged in North Wilts League Trophy fixtures.

After playing Marlborough Youth Eagles, the Under 11 Blues will now take on Highworth Town Juniors H in the quarter final in January.

Also set to feature at that stage of the Under 9 Purple Cup will be the Under 9s after their first round tie on Sunday against Highworth Town Juniors T.

Elsewhere, the Under 11 Yellows faced Ferndale Robdourne YCFC and the Under 10 Yellows took on FC Abbey Meads Youth Purple in their respective cup competitions.

Trophy Event games are designed to be short-term experiences helping children learn about winning and losing in an appropriate environment, and are held for teams across the Under 9 to 11 age groups.
