Goal machine Patrick fires Under 16 Yellows to big win

Monday 8th November 2021

Patrick Otoo-Mensah has always been a player the Under 16 Yellows can rely upon to score goals. Indeed, in the three games his side had played this season prior to Sunday he had registered six times. Against Purton Youth on Sunday he more than doubled that tally, scoring seven times as the Yellows won 10-3.

Ewan Painter (2) and Joseph Simpkins were also on target for Bassett, who comfortably retained their 100% record in North Wilts League Division Three. They were one of four youth sections teams to record wins at competitive age groups this past weekend. Joining them in claiming maximum points were the Under 16 Blue, Under 13 Blue and Under 12 Yellow teams.

The Under 12 Yellows won in dramatic fashion too as they triumphed 6-5 away against Purton Youth in a Division Five thriller. Hat tricks from Aleksander Goralczyk and Stanley Lockley proved decisive as Bassett pulled within a single point of their opponents, who have played a game more.

Also winning away from home, the Under 13 Blue and 16 Blue sides did so in more conventional fashion.

The Under 13 Blues defeated FC Chippenham Youth Panthers 5-1 in Division One courtesy of goals from Phanuel Asenso, Finlay Mowe, Sonny Parmaku and Theo Slade. The win keeps Bassett in second, two points behind leaders FC Calne Youth. Meanwhile, bouncing back from a narrow defeat against FC Chippenham Youth Spartans last week, the Under 16 Blues stuck four goals without reply past Kingsdown Lions Hammers. The result pulls them to within a point of their third place rivals in Division One, with Kingsdown having played two games more.

At the non-competitive age groups, the Under 11 Blues had something to celebrate after a great game in the North Wilts League Trophy first round against Stratton Youth. They will now play Marlborough Youth Eagles in round two.

Trophy Event games are designed to be short-term experiences helping children learn about winning and losing in an appropriate environment, and are held for teams across the Under 9 to 11 age groups.

Back in the competitive age groups, the Under 13 Yellows and FC Abbey Meads Youth Blue shared four goals in an entertaining Division Four contest. Yusuf Guloglu netted both of Bassett's goals against a side who currently sit one place above Bassett in second.

Elsewhere, four sides suffered defeats, with three of those coming against league leaders.

The Under 15 Blues lost a close one away against Malmesbury Youth, Samuel Smith scoring as his side went down by the odd goal in three.

Leon Hudson was on target for the Under 14 Blues, but they were beaten 5-1 by Division Two pacesettters Cirencester Town.

Goals from Mason Brooks and Alex Greenouff were not enough as Division Three leaders Fairford Youth Hawks triumphed 6-2.

And Croft Junior Blue, the top-ranked side in Division Three, inflicted a 6-1 defeat on the Under 18 Yellows.
