Under 16 sides claim weekend double

On an otherwise testing weekend, both of Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 16 sides claimed important victories and retained their 100% league records.

Both won closely fought, entertaining contests by the odd goal in five.

In North Wilts League Division One, the Under 16 Blues saw off Wroughton Youth Panthers as Samuel Bounds scored twice and Max Woods netted for the first time this season.

In Division Three, both Patrick Otoo-Mensah and Ewan Painter scored for the third consecutive game – with Otoo-Mensah having netted twice in each match so far – as the Yellows squeezed past Lydiard Millicent Juniors.

Joining them as winners this weekend were the Under 12 Girls, who also edged out their opponents 3-2. Coming from behind to defeat AFC Corsham Wildcats in the Wiltshire County Women's and Girls' League, they claimed all three points for a second week in a row courtesy of goals from Daisy Bundy (2) and Bethany Humphrey.

A detailed report from their win can be read here.

Elsewhere, the Under 15 Blues dropped their first points of the season. However, they still managed a draw as they shared four goals with South Cerney Youth. Scoring for Bassett were Ed Greenouff and Finlay Marshall.

The Under 13 Blues were also defending an unbeaten record. Yet, despite goals from Phanuel Asenso and Liam Lye-Owens, they lost that after a narrow 4-2 defeat away against Stratton Youth.

There were heavy league defeats for the Under 18 Yellows (0-5 against Croft Junior Blue) and Under 14 Yellows (1-6 against South Cerney Youth). Joseph Manns scored for Bassett in the latter.

Meanwhile, the Under 15 Blues were beaten 5-0 by Stratton Juniors Wolves in Wiltshire County Cup first round action.
