Ladies' fixtures announced

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's South West Regional Women's Football League Premier Division fixtures have now been announced.

Although entering their third season in the Premier Division, Bassett are yet to complete a campaign at this level after the past two seasons were curtailed.

This year's division will feature ten teams - including promoted sides Forest Green Rovers and AFC St Austell, as well as Brislington who have taken a voluntary relegation.

And Bassett will open their campaign against one of those newcomers as they visit Forest Green Rovers on Sunday 5 September (2pm kick off). Bassett won 4-0 when the teams met at Rovers' New Lawn Stadium in a friendly back in May.

After a week off, Graham Fletcher's side then play their opening home fixture against Ilminster Town on Sunday 19 September (2pm kick off). Despite the 2020-21 season being abandoned, Bassett and Ilminster managed to complete their league fixtures against one another with the Somerset side winning both games, including a 6-2 triumph at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.

Bassett then finish September with a visit to Marine Academy Plymouth on Sunday 26 September (2pm kick off). The teams did not meet in 2020-21, though Bassett recorded a 5-0 win in their only previous meeting with the Devonians in September 2019.

It will certainly be a testing first month for Bassett's Ladies in what is expected to be a highly competitive division. What's for certain is that those trio of opening games will serve as excellent preparation for the Vitality Women's FA Cup Second Qualifying round tie against Denham United at the start of October.
