Fond youth section farewell for impressive eight

Saturday 5th June 2021

Thursday night's Wiltshire League Floodlit Division victory against New College not only marked the end of Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 18s, but also the final youth section fixture for eight players - including four who have been with the club for ten or more seasons.

Bassett went out with a win, defeating New College 2-1 in a tight encounter at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.

And for the following eight Bassett's players, it was their last ever match as part of the club's youth section:

Tom Warren (joined at Under 7s)
Adam Jones (joined at Under 7s)
Callum Flay (joined at Under 8s)
Nathaniel Bell (joined at Under 8s)
Michael Gilder (joined at Under 12s)
Thomas Pitt (joined at Under 14s)
Will Jeary (joined at Under 15s)
Steve Tilley (joined at Under 16s)

It has hoped that all will remain with the club - and push for a place in the club's senior men's sides in coming seasons.

Indeed, Bell and Gilder have both already gained a taste of first team football, while Jones and Warren have featured for the club's Development team in the Wiltshire League Premier Division.

All have been a credit to the club throughout their time in the youth section - and their coaches have thoroughly enjoyed watching their progress as footballers and as individuals.
