Under 12 Blues seal North Wilts League Division Two title!

Sunday 30th May 2021

Congratulations to Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blue who sealed the North Wilts League Division Two title with a 4-0 victory against Lydiard Youth Irons!

In a title race with Ramsbury Youth that went down to the wire, Bassett needed a point from their final match to guarantee top spot - and they duly delivered when the pressure was on.

An outstanding defensive performance meant third-place opponents Lydiard were unable to trouble the scoresheet. Meanwhile, Indy Iles-Jones' long range strike and further goals - all scored in the opening half - from Phanuel Asenso, William Smith and Liam Lye-Owens secured a convincing win.

The title is a deserved achievement, capping a superb season in which the Blues dropped just six points from their 22 matches (all against runners-up Ramsbury).

And their title success is even more remarkable for how it was achieved.

When action resumed after lockdown Bassett sat in fourth place, twelve points behind Ramsbury with three games in hand.

And their titles hopes looked slim after they suffered a 7-3 loss against Ramsbury on 11 April which increased their deficit to 15 points.

But Bassett then reeled off a dozen victories in a row to put their fate into their own hands on the final day.

And it was a lucky 13th successive triumph that made sure they reign supreme in Division Two.

Huge congratulations to all the team on a fantastic achievement and an outstanding season!
