Fantasy Football as easy as ABCDE FC for Steven’s title winners

Monday 24th May 2021

Congratulations to Steven Astin, who claimed this year's RWBTFC Fantasy Football League title!

His ABCDE FC side pipped Joe Mitchell's Average Joes to the crown by just 18 points after a thrilling end to the season.

Just seven points separated the sides after the penultimate gameweek 37. But, with the pressure on, Astin delivered. Needing to make just one transfer to his side, he racked up 63 points – taking his total to 2,444, with Mitchell unable to overturn the deficit he faced as he scored a respectable 52 points, with his final tally being 2,426.

In a season that was tight from start to finish, less than 100 points separated the top seven teams.

YourSport Swindon founder Steve Butt (2,407) repeated his third place finish from last season. Meanwhile, Wesley van Vliet (2,396) jumped above former youth section member and Rylands Way tea hut operator Phillip Forster (2,383) to snatch fourth. Forster had made much of the running early in the season.

Completing the top ten were James Skinner (2,355), Rachel Chambers (2,351), Daniel Badman (2,351), Ben Brown (2,329) and Andy Mullen (2,328).

Astin's win makes him the seventh Fantasy League winner in the competition's eleventh year of existence.

Last season's winner Tim Hall finished 25th, while four-time champion Andy Guppy had to settle with eleventh.

Huge thanks go to all 136 entrants who took part in this year's Fantasy League – that figure is yet another record, eclipsing the 124 who entered in 2019-20.

The Fantasy League is always great fun and, importantly, remains free to enter. The league will be up and running again next season for its eleventh edition – and we look forward to seeing even more participants.
