Under 14 Blues finish with a flourish

Monday 24th May 2021

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 14 Blue finished their North Wilts League Division Two campaign in winning fashion as they recorded a hard-fought 2-0 home win against Wims 11 Foothills.

In what was a good, all-round team performance, goals from Beau Hicks and Finlay Hyde, as well as a solid defensive effort earned Bassett the three points – and a double over their opponents for the season.

The Blues will finish their season in fifth, with a record of seven wins and seven defeats from their 14 league fixtures.

Also finishing their campaign with a fifth-place finish were the Under 18s who drew 3-3 with Ashton Keynes Youth White in an entertaining Division One affair.

Ben Llewellyn – netting for the first time this season, Thomas Pitt and Tom Warren were all on target for Bassett to ensure a repeat scoreline from the reverse fixture played three weeks ago.

Elsewhere, it was the penultimate game week for other sides.

The Under 12 Blues edged ever closer to clinching the Division Two title with an emphatic 4-0 home victory against Fairford Town Youth.

Hotshot William Smith scored a brace – making it eight straight games in which he has found the back of the net at least once, while Karol Czekanski and Finley Marchment were also on target.

Bassett visit third place Lydiard Youth Irons next Sunday – and a final day draw will be enough for them to seal top spot. Here's hoping though that they can clinch the crown in style with a 20th league win of the season!

The Under 12 Yellows drew 3-3 in their final home match of the campaign against Swindon Supermarine Youth Red courtesy of goals from Fynn Crone, Yusuf Guloglu and Cheuk Man Koon.

Currently seventh in Division Four, they will be hoping to jump into the top half with a win next weekend and help from results elsewhere.

Meanwhile, there were narrow defeats for the Under 16 Blue and Under 13 Blue teams – both against title winners.

The Under 16 Blues were edged out 1-0 by Division Two champions-elect Childrey.

And the Under 13 Blues fell to a 2-0 loss against Stratton Youth. Their hopes of a top three finish in Division Two are still alive though despite that setback.
