Under 16 Yellows finish their season in style

Monday 3rd May 2021

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 16 Yellow finished their 2020-21 in stunning style as they broke AFC Salisbury's unbeaten record with a 2-1 away triumph.

Edward Aitken and Callum King scored the goals that took Bassett to victory.

Even more impressive was the fact their win came against a Salisbury side who inflicted an 11-1 defeat on Bassett when the teams met at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground back in September.

Huge credit goes to Salisbury for being more than gracious in defeat too. They provided feedback to the North Wilts League describing Bassett's Under 16 Yellows as "a lovely team" who helped provide "one of the nicest match environments we have participated in at Under 16".

Well done to the Yellows for their win, a solid season and also for the way they have conducted themselves on the pitch - they have been a credit to their club!

Elsewhere this weekend, there were important results for the Under 12 Blue, Under 15 Blue and Under 18 sides as they fight for end of season honours.

Under 12 Blue

The Under 12 Blues recorded a double-header victory against Purton Youth that takes them joint top of North Wilts League Division Two.

They triumphed 5-0 in the 'home' fixture courtesy of goals from Phanuel Asenso, Liam Lye-Owens, Sonny Parmaku, William Smith and Elliott Tew.

Asenso, Parmaku and Smith were then also on target in the 'away' fixture, with further goals from Finley Marchment and Austin Tanner securing a 5-2 win.

Bassett are now level on points at the top with Ramsbury Youth, and have the advantage of possessing a game in hand over their title rivals.

Under 15 Blue

The Under 15 Blues kept alive their hopes of a top two finish in Division Two with a 6-1 triumph at home against Northside Athletic.

Bassett are currently fourth in the table, but are only three points behind second place Wroughton Youth Panthers. Leaders Durrington Lions, who are five points ahead albeit having played three games more than Bassett, are also within their sights.

Under 18

Facing Ashton Keynes Youth White, the Under 18s could not afford to lose if they were to retain hope of securing runners-up spot behind champions-elect Castle Combe Colts in Division One.

And Bassett made certain of that with Thomas Pitt scoring a hat-trick in a lively 3-3 draw.

With two games left, Bassett do need results elsewhere to go their way if they are to leapfrog Ashton Keynes and Blunsdon. But they retain a chance at finishing runners-up.

Under 16 Blue

The Under 16 Blues split their double-header against South Cerney. Matthew Brandon scored a consolation goal in a 4-1 'away' defeat before Bassett bounced back to take the points from the 'home' leg. Jacob Rendell-Haines and Charlie Stammers netted braces while Matthew Brandon completed the scoring in a 5-3 victory.

Under 13s

After a 3-2 win against Stratton Juniors Cougars a week ago, the Under 13 Yellows fell to a 5-1 loss against the same team this Sunday, Leo Bagley netting Bassett's consolation.

Meanwhile, the Under 13 Blues saw their five game unbeaten run brought to an end as they were narrowly seen off by Croft Junior Red who triumphed 3-1.

Under 12 Yellow

Another team seeing an unbeaten run brought to an end were the Under 12 Yellows. After four straight victories, they lost 4-2 against Wroughton Youth Clydesdale, with Alfie Hobbs and Oliver Lucas scoring.

Under 14s

Both Under 14 sides succumbed to defeat this weekend.

The Blues lost 1-0 in their penultimate fixture of the season against Highworth Town Juniors J. Meanwhile, the Yellows fell to a 6-2 defeat at home against Division Four title chasers FC Abbey Meads Youth Purple.
