Update on 2020-21 South West Regional Women's Football League season

Tuesday 16th March 2021

Following the decision of the FA Women's Football Board, the 2020-21 league season for Tiers 3-6 of the Women's Football Pyramid will be curtailed with immediate effect. This impacts the South West Regional Women's Football League Premier Division, in which Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Ladies team plays.

This is still subject to approval of the FA Council. However, it is fully expected that they will ratify the decision.

The outcome followed a consultation process in which feedback from leagues and clubs was considered by the FA.

The decision means that two consecutive league seasons have now been brought to a premature end.

It also means no promotion will take place between tiers (Royal Wootton Bassett Town currently play in tier 5). However, an alternative club movement process is being considered in order to support the stability and integrity of the Women's Football Pyramid.

While the league season has been curtailed, clubs and leagues have been encouraged to provide playing opportunities over the coming months by organising alternative fixtures where possible and able to. These will be possible following the expected return of grassroots football from 29 March and in line with appropriate FA and government guidelines.
