Update on 2020-21 Wiltshire Senior League season

Friday 5th March 2021

Following a meeting of its Management Committee, the Wiltshire Senior League has announced its proposed plans relating to the 2020-21 season which impact upon Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Development, Veterans and Under 18 Floodlit teams.

The impact upon each team is outlined below.

Development

The 2020-21 Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division - in which Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Development team participate - has been curtailed. This decision has followed a consultation exercise undertaken among its constituent clubs.

However, contingent upon confirmation of FA guidelines regarding the resumption of grassroots football, the Wiltshire Senior League has proposed a cup competition to provide some form of competitive football for its Premier Division clubs.

This is not mandatory so would not necessarily feature all sixteen Premier Division teams.

However, a detailed plan has been outlined which would see games begin on Saturday 10 April. It is envisioned that teams would be split into two divisions (North and South), with a single round-robin group stage to be followed by a final involving the group winners.

This would take place throughout April and May, with the final tentatively scheduled for Saturday 29 May.

Veterans

The Wiltshire League Veterans Divisions - including the North Division in which Royal Wootton Bassett Town participate - is planned to restart week commencing 29 March (FA guidelines pending).

The intention is that the league season will be played to a finish.

Under 18 Floodlit

The Wiltshire League Floodlit Division - in which Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 18 Floodlit team participate - is planned to restart week commencing 5 April (FA guidelines pending).

The intention is that the league season will be played to a finish by the end of May, though there is a possibility that this could be extended into June if necessary.
