Wiltshire Women’s County Cup Final – Sunday 29th March

Monday 02 March 2020 - by Stuart Smedley (Updated on 08 March 2020 at 20:53)

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies will face Swindon Town Women in the final of the Corsham Print Wiltshire County Women's Cup final on Sunday 29th March at Oakfield Stadium, Melksham (2pm kick off).

Playing in the final for the third season in a row, Bassett will be aiming to retain the County Cup title they won courtesy of a 9-0 victory against Swindon Spitfires last season.

However, they are coming up against a side who Bassett have twice lost to in the competition showpiece. In 2017-18 they were beaten 2-0 by Swindon Town Development, having lost 7-1 to the Robins' first team in 2013-14.

Bassett's journey to the final began with a 4-0 home victory against Laverstock and Ford before a routine 13-0 triumph against Melksham Town in the last eight. Bassett's run appeared as though it would end in the semi final stage as they found themselves 3-1 down against Swindon Sptifires. However, a dramatic recovery saw them recover to win 5-4 in a thrilling encounter.

Swindon, who currently sit tenth out of eleven teams in the FA Women's National League Division One South West – a level above Bassett – reached the final following a 16-0 quarter final triumph against Salisbury and 3-1 victory away against FC Chippenham Youth in the semi final.

Please do put the date in your diary and get down to Melksham to cheer on the Ladies as they seek to earn silverware!
