Veterans set for latest RAF meeting

Monday 13th January 2020

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Veterans travel to Cardiff this Sunday to take on the Royal Air Force FA Veterans in the latest meeting between the two teams. The game takes place at the University of South Wales, Treforest, with kick off at noon.

Building further on the links Bassett's Veterans section have built up with their RAF equivalents, it will be the fifth time the teams have faced one another since their opening encounter in April 2017.

And with the teams having recorded two wins apiece in previous encounters, there's the chance this Sunday to move ahead in the historic series.

The first game between Bassett and the RAF took place at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground in April 2017, with the visitors prevailing 3-0. A year later at the inaugural Veterans Super Sunday Dave Parker scored twice in a 2-0 Bassett victory.

Last February in a meeting at St George's Park the RAF recorded their second win, triumphing 6-3 as goals from Parker, Martin Cooper and Steve Howse were not enough for Bassett. But at the 2019 Super Sunday, Cooper, Jeremy Newton and Martin Ohrland earned a win by the odd goal in five to level things up.

Bassett will be hoping to do better than in their most recent contest against an armed forces side though, having been beaten 5-0 by the Army FA Masters in December.
