Under 12 Yellows reign in the rain

Monday 14th October 2019

A week full of rain decided the fate of many of the youth sections matches this weekend as just five of our 13 competitive team played this afternoon.

The Under 12 Yellows were victorious in the league for the first time this season as they thrashed Stratton Juniors Tigers a whopping 7-1!

Brandon Jack made the headlines with a hat-trick, while Shaun Walker and Samuel Britton were both on target once. Super sub Peter Harrington came off the bench to bag himself two goals to complete the tally of seven.

Meanwhile, the Under 14 Yellows were victorious in the Wiltshire County Cup. They heroically beat Lydiard Millicent Juniors a cracking 4-1. Half time looked promising for the Yellows as they went into the break 2-1 up thanks to goals from on form Patrick Otoo-Mensah and Reuben Badman. The second half scorers Poppy Wannell and Noah Cranswick-Coates completed the tally of four to seal their progress.

The Under 15 Yellows also advanced in the County Cup, defeating higher level FC Chippenham Youth Blue 3-2. In a thrilling game, Chippenham took the lead twice, but Bassett won thanks to goals from Eddie Aitkn, Taiga Matsushima and Joey Warren.

The Under 16 Blue team were scheduled to play in the North Wilts League Cup this weekend at home against local rivals Wroughton Youth White. Due to the away side not being able to play in this game, Bassett were given a home walkover which now sends them into the quarter finals where they will play either FC Chippenham Youth Blue or Castle Combe Colts. The Under 16 Yellows, who face Fairford Youth Revenants next week, will play Cirencester Town Youth in the last eight if they win. The very best of luck in those games to both teams!

The Under 18 Yellows were also scheduled for a League Cup game this weekend versus Wanborough Juniors and were awarded a walkover. They will play away against Fairford Town Development in the quarter finals – it's great to see them doing well in both competitions as they continue to try and retain their 100% win rate so far this season.

Elsewhere, the Under 12 Blues suffered defeat to FC Abbey Meads Youth Purple as they were beaten a great 7-1. Oliver Smith was on target for the Blues to ensure Abbey Meads did not keep a clean sheet this time around.

The Under 13 Yellows suffered defeat in their reverse fixture against South Cerney Youth on the back of their loss against them last week. They were beaten 10-1. Finley Lavender was on target for the Yellows as he bagged himself their only goal of the game.

Manager Josh Carey reflected: "Despite the scoreline, we played to our absolute best abilities in patches during the match and unfortunately our continued struggle of having an injured goalkeeper is really having a big effect on games. However, I could not have asked for more of the players this afternoon. They were determined to keep trying and trying even though nothing was going their way. We must keep looking forward and forget what's happened in recent weeks and try to patch over each crack in the system."

Hopefully, pitches at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground will prove to be as strong as they can be as we are faced with another week's worth of rain. And we all have our fingers crossed that next week turns out to be another weekend packed full of football.
