Bassett set for Tadley Vase test

Wednesday 11th September 2019

Royal Wootton Bassett Town visit Tadley Calleva in the Buildbase FA Vase second qualifying round on Saturday.

Their nineteenth season competing in the competition, Bassett will be aiming to make it through the qualifying rounds for only the fifth time. It's something they last achieved in 2017-18, when Bassett reached the second round, matching their best ever run.

The trip to Hampshire was Bassett's reward for their 7-0 first qualifying round triumph against New College and will certainly represent a stiffer test than that initial contest.

Tadley compete in the Wessex League Premier Division and currently sit twelfth with one win, three draws and two defeats from their opening six games. They are winless in five games, though have drawn their last three fixtures.

The Tadders received a bye in the first qualifying round of the Vase. Playing in the competition since 2008-09, their best FA Vase run came in 2015-16 when they reached the third round, losing to Newport (Isle of Wight) in a replay.

Last season, their first in the Premier Division after securing promotion from Division One in 2017-18, Tadley finished eighth and defeated Hellenic League opposition in the form of Ascot United in the FA Vase. They were beaten 1-0 at home in the second qualifying round by the eventual winners Chertsey Town.
