Bassett handed home tie in Women's FA Cup

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies have been handed a home tie against Chipping Sodbury Town in the 2019-20 Women's FA Cup preliminary round.

The tie will take place on Sunday 1st September at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground (2pm kick off).

Entering the Women's FA Cup for the eighth time, Bassett will be hoping to record only their second ever win in the competition.

Their only previous victory came in the 2013-14 preliminary round when a Sam Wood free kick secured a 1-0 triumph against Cheltenham Civil Service.

Since then, Bassett have suffered an exit at the first hurdle in each of the last five seasons, including a 3-1 loss away against Warsash Wasps when they entered at the first qualifying round stage last year.

Jonny House and James Goddard's side, who finished 2018-19 as South West Women's League Eastern Division champions and Wiltshire Women's Cup winners, will be hopeful of advancing this year though, having been paired with lower-level opposition.

Chipping Sodbury finished in third place in Gloucestershire County League Division One last season and were also runners-up in the Gordon Perrett Memorial Cup.

They came close to causing an upset in the Women's FA Cup though. Hosting South West Women's Premier Division outfit Downend Flyers, the Sods suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat.
