Greenouff brace good enough for Under 12 Blues

Sunday 28th April 2019

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blue made sure they finished their 2018-19 season with consecutive victories – and also boosted their chances of survival in North Wilts League Division Two.

They saw off Swindon Supermarine, a team Bassett sat just two points ahead of having played two games more at the start of the day, convincingly winning 4-1.

Ed Greenouff led the way with a brace, while leading scorer Thomas Nicholls grabbed his tenth of the season. Joshua Sturmey completed the scoring by netting his fifth of the year.

Bassett are now certain of a tenth place finish, and will wind up ninth out of twelve teams unless Supermarine win their final two games.

The Under 15 Blues also ended their league campaign in winning style. Already assured of runners-up spot in Division One, they cruised to a 7-0 away win against Lambourn Sports Juniors.

Kevin Prouse moved to 41 goals for the season as he plundered four, while Harry Farrow's hat trick took him to twenty.

Next up for the Blues is their North Wilts League Cup final against Swindon Supermarine J on Saturday 18th May.

Fellow cup finalists the Under 18 Blues still have two league games to play. And they kept up hopes that they will be playing for a league and cup double when they meet Stratton Juniors Pumas in the final at the County Ground with a 5-0 win away at Marlborough Youth.

With two games left to play, they currently sit second in Division One, a point behind leaders Malmesbury Victoria Youth DT, who have played a game before.

Bassett meet Malmesbury in their final game, meaning the winner of that fixture will take the title. Three points against Wanborough Juniors in their penultimate match will mean Bassett would then only require a draw to seal top spot.

In midweek, the Under 16 Blue's Division One title hopes were dashed as they were beaten 3-0 by Cirencester Town Centurions.

Second place is theirs though – and Bassett also have the Wiltshire County Cup crown already in the bag following another outstanding season.
