Veterans Super Sunday 2019

Sunday 14th April 2019

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Veterans will be hosting this year's Super Sunday event on 5th May at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, with funds raised being donated to the Royal Air Forces Association.

The highlight of the day will once again be the fixture against the RAF FA Veterans team, with this being the third year in a row that the teams have met. The RAF side won the inaugural fixture 3-0 before Bassett triumphed 2-0 thanks to a Dave Parker brace in last year's edition.

That contest (12pm kick off) will take place in between two other games.

The first pits Bassett's Veterans 'Yellow' side against Stratton Juniors (10am kick off), with the final match featuring Bassett's Over 50s side and a Wales Veterans Football Association XI (2pm kick off).

Food and a presentation will follow each game in the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground clubhouse.

All are welcome to attend - and entry will be by donation.

In addition to Sunday's football, on the Saturday evening, the Veterans will also be hosting a disco and karaoke for their RAF FA equivalents in the clubhouse from 7.30pm. It should be a fun-filled night!

As a club, we are always proud to help build on the close ties between Royal Wootton Bassett and the armed forces, in particular the Royal Air Force.

Given the proximity to Lyneham, numerous individuals linked with the RAF – be they serving in the air force or their family members – have played, coached or volunteered for Bassett over the years.

And, in keeping with the town's motto – "We honour those who serve" - we hope hosting this charity event is a fitting way of showing our appreciation for everything the RAF have done for our town and country.

It would therefore be great to see a large crowd for what should be an entertaining day, with three games played in a fantastic spirit for an outstanding cause.

Last year's event raised over £800 for the RAF Benevolent Fund, and it would be great to exceed that amount this year!

We look forward to seeing you there.
