Convincing win worth the wait

Royal Wootton Bassett Town recorded a fine 4-2 win against Holmer Green in their penultimate home fixture of the campaign.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town bounced back from last week's heavy defeat and improved their chances of a top half Hellenic League Premier Division finish with a richly deserved 4-2 triumph against Holmer Green.

The result moves Bassett within a point of their eighth place opponents with a game in hand still to play and draws them level on points with Binfield, who fell to a 2-1 defeat against relegation battlers Tuffley Rovers.

Bassett's penultimate home game of the year, kick off was delayed by an hour as Holmer Green found themselves stuck in traffic on the M4.

Midway through the opening half the visitors found themselves a goal behind as Danny Lachacz struck for the second time this season.

In an otherwise evenly matched affair, half time arrived with no further change to the score.

Fifteen minutes after the restart the scores were level when Harrison Holbrook found a way past Gary Aulsberry.

But parity lasted just three minutes as Brad Pagliaroli, restored to the starting line-up, made it 2-1.

Having not scored since mid-January, he struck again on 69 minutes to put Bassett in command.

A third goal in the space of ten minutes, this time scored by impressive Forest Green Rovers loanee Elias Youssef put the result beyond doubt.

Dean Powles registered a late consolation for Holmer Green to complete the scoring, but by that stage there was no chance for a late comeback similar to the one pulled off in Buckinghamshire to claim a point earlier in the season.

Bassett now finish their campaign this week with a doubleheader against Longlevens.
