Under 16 and 18 Blues set for County Cup finals this weekend

Monday 18th March 2019

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 18 and 16 Blue teams aim to replicate the success of the Ladies side this Sunday as they vie for County Cup titles of their own.

The Under 16 Blues aim to repeat their County Cup success from last season when they take on Chippenham Town Youth (10.30am kick off), while the elder of the two sides take on Chippenham Town for the Wiltshire Youth Cup crown (2pm kick off).

Both games take place at Westbury United's Meadow Lane ground.

Under 16 Blue

After becoming only the second youth side in the club's history to be crowned County Cup winners, the Under 16 Blues are hoping to make more history and claim back-to-back titles.

Their path to the final has mirrored that from last season too, with a victory by the odd goal against Trowbridge Town Youth Lions sealing their place in the showpiece.

Bassett were awarded their second round tie against Durrington before thrashing FC Abbey Meads Colts 21-1 to book a quarter final place. There, they saw off Wanborough Juniors Yellow 4-0 before Daniel Warre's extra time goal took them past Trowbridge.

Their opponents in the final are Chippenham Town Youth, who saw off Salisbury Youth by the odd goal in five in the last four.

In the earlier rounds Chippenham defeated Ashton Keynes Youth (5-0), Cricklade Youth (15-1), Melksham Town Youth Tornadoes (12-2) and Devizes Town Youth (4-2).

Under 18 Blue

The Under 18 Blues became the third Bassett side to reach the Wiltshire Youth Cup showpiece – and they'll be hoping to become the first to claim the crown after defeats for the sides who made it to the final in 2004-05 and 2010-11.

They'll have to overcome a strong Chippenham Town outfit on Sunday if they are to do just that though.

Bassett's journey to the final began with a 13-0 thrashing of Derry Hill United Pyros. They then beat New College 6-2 before seeing off North Wilts League rivals Malmesbury Victoria Youth Development 3-0 in the last eight.

That set up a semi final clash at home against Stratton Juniors Pumas, and Bassett edged out a 3-2 triumph to seal a spot in the final.

Chippenham's began with a first round walkover before beating Alderbury Youth 4-0 away from home. Another away win – a convincing 6-1 triumph against Melksham Town Youth – set up a semi final against FC Chippenham Youth, which the Bluebirds won 2-0.

Both finals should be entertaining games, and it would be great to see a pair of Bassett victories. Please do get down to Westbury to show your support!
