Bassett to host Senior Cup semi final on Wednesday

Sunday 10th February 2019

The Gerard Buxton Sports Ground plays host to the Wiltshire Senior Cup semi final between Westbury United and Swindon Supermarine on Wednesday evening (7.45pm kick off).

Western League Premier Division high-flyers Westbury are seeking to pull off an upset against a Supermarine side who have been in a rich vein of form over the past two months and are knocking on the door of the Southern League Premier Division South playoff places.

This will be Westbury's second game of the competition at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground as they came from behind to beat Royal Wootton Bassett Town 3-2 in the opening round. They subsequently saw off Wiltshire League teams Shrewton United (4-2) and Purton (7-0) to book their semi final spot.

Supermarine, competition winners two seasons ago, had a bye through to the second round where they saw off local rivals Highworth Town by the odd goal in three. They then defeated Southern League Division One Central side Melksham Town 4-1 in the quarter finals.

The winners will face either Laverstock and Ford or Salisbury, who meet in the other semi final on Tuesday at Melksham.

We look forward to hosting what should be an entertaining contest and hope to see a healthy crowd.

Entry is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions. Under 16s go free.
