Under 13 Yellows claw their way into contention

Sunday 9th December 2018

A 4-2 victory against FC Chippenham Youth Barbarians pulled Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 13 Yellow to within just three points of second place in North Wilts League Division Two.

Though having played a game more than the position's current occupiers Malmesbury Youth, Bassett's second win a row means they are back in contention for a finish at the top end of the table.

Against FC Chippenham, leading scorer Patrick Otoo-Mensah scored twice, while Alana Hunt netted for the second successive game and Toby Tew bagged his first goal of the season.

The Under 12 Blues were the only other victorious Bassett side this weekend. After seeing off Division Two leaders Devizes Town Youth last week, they stuck nine goals without reply past basement dwellers Lydiard Millicent Juniors.

Caden Jefferies led the way with a hat-trick, while Ed Greenouff, Matthew Jones, Michael Lynch, Thomas Nicholls, Louis Portlock and Joshua Sturmey all got in on the act.

Though not securing victory, the Under 16 Yellows picked up a point against Stratton Youth thanks to goals from Tom Warren and Cameron Wootten.

The Under 14 Blues also collected a point, holding Robins to a 1-1 draw just a week after losing 4-0 to the same opponents. Joseph Rouse's third of the season made sure the spoils were shared.

Elsewhere, the Under 18 Yellows fell to a heavy 8-2 loss against Brinkworth Cats, which cuts Bassett's advantage over their conquerors in Division One to just a point, with Brinkworth still possessing two games in hand.

The Under 14 Yellows were unable to build on last week's draw, losing 3-1 away against Ramsbury Youth.

The Under 13 Blues were beaten 6-1 at home against title challengers Bishops Cannings Corinthians.
