Evan makes Shaw of win for in-form Under 13 Blues

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 13 Blue continued their good recent run of form in North Wilts League Division One as they defeated Lydiard Youth Irons 2-1.

Bassett's game against the division's basement dwellers was always a potential banana skin for the visitors. And with a bare nine available due to injury, Bassett knew they were going to be in for a challenging afternoon.

But a fine team effort and Evan Bexon-Shaw brace secured the three points for Bassett, who have now taken ten points from the last fifteen available.

This means they currently sit third in the table and are close to matching their points total from last season when they finished eighth.

There was an impressive first win in five for the Under 12 Yellow side, whose five-star performance inspired them to a 5-1 triumph against Fairford and Lechlade. Beau Hicks led the way with a hat-trick with Tomas Jerram and Finley Lavender also scoring.

In cup action, both the Under 15 Blues and Under 18 Blues secured progress.

A 5-1 defeat of FC Calne Blue booked the former's place in the semi-finals of the North Wilts League Cup. Kevin Prouse (2), Harry Farrow, Otis Lewis and Rory Ryan were all on target as they became the third Bassett team to reach the last four of their age group competition.

The Under 18 Blues are another side to have progressed to that stage of the League Cup. And they also have the chance to go deep in the Wiltshire Youth Cup too after thrashing New College 6-1 in their second round tie.

Also advancing in the Wiltshire County Cup were the Under 16 Blues. The reigning holders were given a walkover in their scheduled second round tie against Durrington Youth.

Elsewhere, the Under 16 Yellows lost their second successive league game in a row, falling to a narrow 4-2 defeat at home against Fairford and Lechlade. Callum Flay and Tom Warren scored for Bassett.

The Under 12 Yellows also came up agonisingly short in an entertaining contest, losing by the odd goal in five against Blunsdon Youth.

There were plenty of goals in the Under 14 Yellow and Under 13 White teams games too. But the elder of the two sides were defeated 8-4 by Purton Youth while the Under 13 Whites lost 10-2 against Lydiard Millicent Juniors.

The Under 14 Blues' inconsistent form continued with a 4-0 loss against Cirencester Town, while the Under 12 Blues were beaten 5-1 by Division Two pacesetters Devizes Town Youth, Ed Greenouff scoring Bassett's consolation.
