Cup hat-trick

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 16 Blue, Under 16 Yellow and Under 15 Blue teams all recorded cup victories this weekend.

Looking to defend their North Wilts League Cup crown, the Under 16 Blues moved into the quarter finals with a hard-fought 3-1 triumph away against Highworth Town Juniors T.

Bassett had defeated Highworth 7-1 in the league last week, but with a last eight cup place on the line, it proved to be a more closely-contested game.

But Luca Robinson's brace and Daniel Warre's goal made sure Bassett progressed.

They will be joined in the quarter finals by the Under 16 Yellows, who edged out Malmesbury Youth 3-2. Callum Flay, Adam Jones and Tom Warren were on target to clinch victory.

Meanwhile, in the opening round of the Wiltshire Cup the Under 15 Blues put seven goals without reply past Bradford Town Youth Panthers. Otis Lewis led the way with a hat-trick, with James Johnson (2), Rory Ryan and Kevin Prouse also netting.

In league action, the Under 18 Yellows won by the same score against Brinkworth Cats. Joe Mitchell and Luke Saunders both scored hat-tricks, while Ryan Battershell completed the scoring.

The Under 15 Yellow and Under 13 Yellows teams were also victorious.

The former defeated Lydiard Youth Black 5-2 to move into a four-way share of top spot in North Wilts League Division Three. Samuel Osei-Bonsu struck a hat-trick and Tristan McKay a brace.

A 5-3 win away against Malmesbury Youth moved the latter into fourth in Division Two. 'Hat-trick' Patrick Otoo-Mensah scored three, while James Rae and Sam Wallace chipped in with a goal each.

In Under 18 Division One, the Under 18 Blues played out a six-goal thriller at home against Malmesbury Victoria Development, and were able to claim a share of the spoils.

The Under 12 Blues were unfortunate to go down by the odd goal in five at home against Highworth Town Juniors J. Bassett's goals came from Ed Greenouff and an own goal.

Elsewhere, Oliver Dyer's two goals were not enough to prevent a 7-2 defeat against Croft Junior Blue.

The Under 14 Blues were beaten 7-0 by league leaders AFC Newbury Colts, Bishops Cannings Corinthians scored five unanswered goals against the Under 13 Blues, while the Under 12 Yellow lost 8-0 at home against Pewsey Vale Youth.
