Sunday 23rd September 2018

Four of the Royal Wootton Bassett Town sides in North Wilts League Cup first round action this weekend were victorious, with all of them among the goals.

The most thrilling game of the day was no doubt the Under 15 Yellows' wild cup encounter against Division Three rivals Wanborough Juniors. Between them, the teams racked up fourteen goals, with Bassett edging the contest 8-6. Tristan McKay fired four, with Samuel Osei Bonsu not far behind with a hat-trick, while Sebastian Turner completed the scoring.

Also notching eight in their first round tie were the Under 12 Blues, though their progress was achieved in a more straightforward manner as they went through without conceding against FC Abbey Meads Rangers. Caden Jefferies and Samuel Smith both scored braces, with Jamie Black, Finlay Hyde, Thomas Nicholas and Jake Webster also on target.

There was a 7-0 triumph for the Under 16 Yellow team against FC Abbey Meads Youth Rangers. Firing Bassett through to the second round were Josh Carey (2), Adam Carter, Will Jeary, Kieren Kirby, Tom Warren and Cameron Wootten.

Away against AFC Newbury White, Jack Andrews' early pair of goals gave the Under 13 Yellows an early 2-0 lead. However, Newbury were able to pull level with strikes either side of half time. Bassett then restored their lead through Ewan Painter and two goals from Patrick Otoo-Mensah. Newbury were only able to grab one further goal as the visitors won 5-3.

Also through to the second round are the Under 14 Blues, who were awarded their tie against South Cerney.

The Under 14 Yellows, meanwhile, were eliminated as they lost 12-1 against Division One side Bishops Cannings Fireblades.

In league action, the Under 15 Blues made it three wins from three, thrashing Ferndale Rodbourne 10-3. Kevin Prouse led the way with four goals, while Harry Farrow (2), Marcel Lewis (2), Howard Evans and Otis Lewis also found the net.

There was a first league loss for the Under 16 Blues though as they were narrowly defeated 2-1 by Cirencester Town Centurions. Billy Saunders was on target for Bassett.

The same fate befell the Under 13 Whites in an 8-2 defeat against Stratton Juniors Tigers.

Elsewhere, the Under 12 Yellow side were beaten 8-0 by FC Calne Cosmos.
