Royal Wootton Bassett Town were eliminated from the Buildbase FA Vase, falling to a 4-0 defeat against Bashley.
Royal Wootton Bassett Town have rarely fared well when paired with Wessex League opposition in national competitions. And that trend continued as Bassett were well beaten by Bashley in their FA Vase second qualifying round tie.
The Hampshire visitors were in control throughout, racing to a 3-0 half time lead before ultimately triumphing 4-0.
To be honest, Bashley were a class above Sam Collier's side. Controlled in possession, clinical when punishing Bassett's errors and able to stop their hosts from playing, they achieved a result that reflected their dominance.
They went close twice early on through Dan Munday, the forward spurning the second of those opportunities by heading wide from six yards when unmarked.
Bassett did next come close, but a fine save from Jason Collins diverted TJ Bohane's shot around the post after the forward raced onto a ball in behind the defence.
The deadlock was then broken as Tony Rolls headed home from Harrison White's free kick.
Cameron Beard soon doubled Bashley's lead. Brad Morris' pass released Munday, who cut back for White. And while Charlie McGready was able to block White's shot, Beard was on hand to bundle in the rebound.
Beard was the scorer of his team's third too, slotting in from Munday's cut back after Bassett had conceded possession cheaply.
Half time was something of a relief for Bassett, but Bashley continued to apply pressure after the restart. Beard almost completed his hat trick, only to be denied by McGready before Munday's follow up was cleared off the line.
Rolls eventually got his team's fourth, tapping in unmarked after being picked out by another dangerous free kick.
To compound matters for the hosts, they were unable to muster a consolation goal, Brad Pagliaroli coming closest when his firmly struck shot from the edge of the area forced a good save from Collins.
