Under 12 Yellows set up final day title decider

Sunday 6th May 2018

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Yellows set themselves up with a final day title decider in North Wilts League Division Four courtesy of a 4-1 victory against Stratton Juniors Tigers.

With current leaders Ramsbury Juniors winning their final game of the season against third place Lydiard Youth Spartans, Bassett will be able to pull level and force a championship playoff if they prevail in their final game against Croft Junior Red next week.

Also victorious this weekend were the Under 16 Blues, who defeated Tetbury Town 4-1. Tetbury's defence was forced to dance to Sam Singha's tune as he fired a hat-trick. Charlie Humphreys completed the scoring.

Elsewhere, the Under 15 Blues saw their treble hopes dashed in agonising fashion. They had fallen to a 1-0 defeat against league leaders Swindon Supermarine R on Thursday, and were beaten by the odd goal in three in Sunday's return fixture. That results means Supermarine sealed the Division One title.

However, Bassett, already crowned County Cup winners, will have a chance to gain revenge for being pipped in the league when they face Supermarine in the North Wilts League Cup final in a fortnight's time.

Before that though they will look to secure runners-up in the league. Victory against third place Castle Combe Colts and three points from either of their two other remaining fixtures should be enough to do so.

The Under 18 Blues were involved in a game with title ramifications too. A win against second place Malmesbury Victoria Development in their final game would have guaranteed Bassett the Division One crown. However, a tense game ended 0-0.

That means Malmesbury, with a game in hand still to play against bottom side Stratton Juniors, are a point behind Bassett.

Meanwhile, the Under 14 Yellows were beaten 7-1 by Marlborough Youth Colts in their penultimate fixture.
