Under 12 Girls overcome bogey side

After three defeats against Derry Hill United Flames already this season, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Girls finally overcame their bogey side with a thrilling 4-3 victory.

In their final meeting of the season with Derry Hill, leading scorer Poppy Wannell fired a brace, while Lucia Green and Edie Harris completed the scoring.

With two games remaining in the Wiltshire County Girls League, Bassett currently sit fourth, but now have their eyes placed on leapfrogging third place Trowbridge Wanderers Youth.

In the North Wilts League, the Under 12 Yellows kept up the pressure in the Division Four title race with a 7-3 triumph against Stratton Youth Blue.

Also keeping their hopes alive were the Under 15 Yellows. A late equaliser scrambled home from a corner by Liam Hiles – his first goal in six years – earned them a point in a 2-2 draw with FC Abbey Meads Colts. Callum Flay had been on target for Bassett earlier.

That result, coupled with defeat for third place Stratton Youth guaranteed the Yellows at least a second place finish in Division Three. Whether they maintain top spot will depend on Swindon Supermarine J, who still have six games to play.

The Under 12 Whites were big winners, defeating Chiseldon Youth 6-0 thanks to Poppy Wannell's hat trick and further goals from Lethabo Blackie, Luke Taylor and Nathan Woodward.

There was a heavy defeat for the Under 12 Blues. They were beaten 7-3 by Cirencester Town Centurions, having lost 3-2 to Trowbridge Town Bees in midweek. They were not the only side in midweek action.

On Wednesday, the Under 15 Blues were victorious, beating FC Calne 3-1 thanks to a Daniel Warre brace and Ben Cardus goal.

The title winning Under 13 Blues completed their campaign on Thursday with a 3-3 draw against South Cerney. Jacob Rendell-Haines scored all the goals for Bassett.

On Tuesday the Under 14 Blues, scoring a consolation through Otis Lewis, ended their season with a 6-1 loss against title favourites Swindon Supermarine J. They could still be involved in a playoff for runners-up spot in Division One, but such an outcome would require FC Chippenham Youth White to lose their final two games.
