Under 13s enjoy winning weekend

Sunday 11th March 2018

It was a fine weekend for Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 13 Blue and Yellow teams as they both recorded noteworthy victories.

For the Yellows, their 2-1 triumph against Wroughton Youth White marked the first win of their campaign.

In a game full of chances and played in a good spirit, goals from Ellie O'Nions and Thomas Morrisey and a strong defensive performance - especially in the face of plenty of second half Wroughton pressure - sealed the points for Bassett.

The Blues' 9-3 win over Croft Junior Red was more straightforward, but no less important. Coupled with defeat for South Cerney, it means Bassett can seal the North Wilts League Division Two title next weekend should they defeat the second-place side.

Against Croft, leading scorer Jacob Rendell-Haines moved his tally for the season to 46 with four goals. He was assisted by Samuel Warner, who netted a brace, Michael Clifton, Joshua Griffin and Joey Warren.

Elsewhere, it was a weekend of narrow defeats.

In their Wiltshire County Girls League Cup tie away against Derry Hill United Flames, the Under 12 Girls lost by the odd goal in three. Poppy Wannell was on target for Bassett.

Euan Burke and Ryan Cinnamond found the net for the Under 18 Yellows, but they ultimately were unlucky to lose 3-2 against North Wilts League Division Two title chasers Brinkworth Cats.

Goals flowed freely in the Under 15 Yellows' visit to Lydiard Youth Black. But Bassett's Division Three title hopes were dealt a blow as the home side prevailed 6-5. Bassett's scorers were Tom Warren (2), Joshua Irving, Jack Timbrell and Cameron Wootten. The Yellows are still top of the table, though third place Swindon Supermarine J are only five points behind with four games in hand.

The Under 12 Blues were also involved in a match featuring eleven goals. They too suffered defeat, falling 7-4 away against Trowbridge Town Bees. Bassett trailed 6-1 at the break, but were able to pull within three come full time thanks to Alec Gawthropp's hat-trick. Naman Gurung completed the scoring for Bassett.

The Under 16 Blues suffered a third defeat in a row, losing 4-1 at home against third place Liden Community.
