Mixed fortunes

Sunday 18th February 2018

It was a case of mixed fortunes for Royal Wootton Bassett Town's youth sides on another weekend where the number of games was limited by the weather and school holidays.

The only victors on the day were the Under 12 Yellows, who roared to an 11-0 success at home against FC Chippenham Youth Trojans, a result which gives them a share of top spot in North Wilts League Division Four.

While not victorious, the Under 18 Yellows can be pleased with the dramatic point they claimed against Avonvale United thanks to Callum Bridges' last minute equaliser. Ryan Battershell has scored Bassett's earlier goal.

Elsewhere, game thirteen proved unlucky for the Under 15 Yellows, who lost their unbeaten record in a 3-1 defeat against Swindon Supermarine J. Despite losing in the league for the first time this season, Bassett still sit top of Division Three. However, their lead over second place Ashton Keynes has been trimmed to two points, while Supermarine sit five points behind with three games in hand.

The Under 12 Blues gave Division One pacesetters AFC Newbury Red a run for their money in a tight encounter, before eventually succumbing to a 4-2 loss.

A week after gaining their first point of the season, the Under 13 Yellows fell to a 4-0 loss against Wroughton Youth White, while the Under 14 Yellows (1-6 against Wroughton Youth Lightning) and Under 12 Whites (0-8 against Cricklade Youth) found the going tough too.
