Cup joy for Bassett pair

Sunday 3rd December 2017

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 18 Yellow and Under 15 Blues teams advanced to the semi-finals of the North Wilts League Cup after impressive victories this weekend.

The two teams took different routes to the final four. While the Under 15 Blues, who are looking to retain their cup crown, romped to an 8-1 triumph against Castle Combe Colts, the Under 18 Yellows secured their progress with a hard-fought win by the odd goal in three against Tetbury Town.

A long-range screamer from Euan Burke and strike from Ryan Cinnamond were enough for the elder of the two teams, who are joined in the semi-finals by fellow Division Two side Ashton Keynes.

Also advancing are Division One Fairford and Lechlade, while the last quarter final tie between FC Chippenham Youth and Liden Community is scheduled for next weekend.

Seven different scorers found the net for the Under 15 Blues. Top scorer Landon Golding added another two to his tally while Nathaniel Bell, Ben Chin, Jack Langcaster, Frederick Merrett, Thomas Pitt and Daniel Warre were also on target.

They'll be joined in the last four by the two other sides currently in the top three of Division One – Swindon Supermarine R and Highworth Town Juniors T – and Cirencester Town from Division Two.

In league action, the Under 12 Yellow, Under 13 Blue and Under 18 Blue teams were all big winners.

A 6-1 victory against basement dwellers Stratton Youth Blue ensures the Under 12 Yellows remain in touch with Division Four leaders Ramsbury Youth.

Meanwhile, a 6-2 triumph against Ashton Keynes Youth moved the Under 13 Blues an astonishing nineteen points clear of Wroughton Youth Blue in Division Two. Joey Warren led the way with a brace as Oliver Dyer, Joshua Griffin, Jacob Rendell-Haines, Samuel Warner provided the other goals.

George Staten scored four times for the Under 18 Blues in their 8-0 thrashing of AFC Newbury Colts. Harrison Gough and Thomas Legge both added braces.

Elsewhere, the Under 15 Yellows dropped their first points of the season, but remain undefeated after drawing 2-2 away at Marlborough Youth. Noah Beech and Adam Carter scored to earn Bassett a point.

A stoppage time goal denied the Under 12 Girls a share of the spoils against league leaders Melksham Town Youth, who prevailed 3-2. Poppy Wannell netted both goals for Bassett.

The Under 12 Whites fell just short in a tight game against Wroughton Youth Leopards, losing 2-0.

There was a 4-1 loss for the Under 13 Yellows at Ramsbury Juniors, while the Under 14 Yellows were beaten 8-0 by Northside Athletic.
