Goals galore

Sunday 8th October 2017

It was a high scoring weekend for Royal Wootton Bassett Town's youth sides, with three teams hitting their opponents for six in big victories.

The most eventful game of the weekend involved the Under 12 Blues, who got the better of an eleven-goal thriller against FC Chippenham Youth Spartans by the odd goal.

Making their triumph even more amazing was the fact they trailed their hosts 2-0 at half time. However, Alec Gawthropp (2), Jack Blunt, Noah Cranswick-Coates, Naman Gurung and Leo Neve all struck following the restart to complete the turnaround and seal three points which take Bassett joint top of North Wilts League Division One.

Also racking up six goals were the Under 12 Yellows. Their triumph was a more straightforward one though, as they preserved their 100% record in Division Four with a 6-1 defeat of Cirencester Town Gladiators. Patrick Otoo-Mensah netted a hat-trick, while Samuel Watson scored a brace.

Meanwhile, the Under 13 Blues struck six for the second consecutive week, defeating Malmesbury Youth Warriors 6-3. They now lead Wroughton Youth Blue by two points at the top of Division Two. Joey Warren led the charge, scoring three goals, and Jacob-Rendell Haines got himself a brace.

Big wins were the order of the day for the Under 18 Blue, Under 18 Yellow and Under 15 Blue teams too.

Five different scorers found the net for the Under 18 Blues in their 5-3 triumph at home against AFC Newbury Colts. On target were Thomas Austin, Cameron Bell, Bailey Gallagher, Thomas Legge and Finley Sly.

Sam Blunsdon struck a brace, while Euan Burke also found the net to lift the Under 18 Yellows to a 3-1 victory at Swindon Supermarine G.

Having suffered their first loss of the season last week, the Under 15 Blues bounced back in style, seeing off Lydiard Millicent Juniors 4-1. Top scorer Landon Golding scored another two, and he was backed up by strikes from Daniel Warre and Thomas Pitt.

It was a positive weekend for the Under 14 Yellows as well. They got off the mark, picking up their first point of the campaign in an eventful 4-4 draw against Fairford and Lechlade Youth.

Things were less bright for the Under 14 Blues. They suffered their first league defeat of the season at the hands of early Division One leaders FC Chippenham Youth White, who won 8-2. Howard Evans and Rory Ryan scored what proved to be consolation goals for Bassett.

Elsewhere in the North Wilts League, Division Two pacesetters Robins shutout the Under 16 Blues in a 3-0 win and the Under 13 Yellows fell to an 11-0 loss at home against Highworth Town Juniors H.

On Saturday, the Under 12 Girls fell to a narrow 4-2 defeat away against Melksham Town Youth. Poppy Wannell and Darcy Cox found the net for Bassett.
