It was a busy weekend of North Wilts League Cup action for Royal Wootton Bassett Town's youth teams, with five teams sealing safe passage through to round two and another six being eliminated.

Among the series of results, two sides - the Under 15 Yellows and Under 12 Blues - squeaked through after extra time, while the Under 16 Blues fell to defeat after their game finished with the teams level at the end of normal time. The Under 13 Blues were also involved in a dramatic contest, as they fell to a 5-4 defeat having led 4-1 at half time.

The Under 15 Yellows sprung a surprise on Highworth Town Juniors J, who went into the game undefeated in Division Two. The contest was scoreless at the end of normal time before Thomas Lawrence struck the decisive blow during extra time.

The Under 12 Blues' extra time battle was a much more high scoring affair as they saw off Division One rivals Swindon Supermarine 6-4 after eight goals had been shared in normal time.

There was no joy for the Under 16 Blues at the end of extra time though as they fell to a 5-3 defeat against Northside Athletic. James Young (2) and Becky Wilkins were on target for Bassett.

Both Under 18s teams booked their place in the second round with well-earned victories.

Seven different scorers were on target for the Blues as they thrashed Swindon Supermarine G 8-0. Samuel Dibble netted a brace, while there was a goal each for Cameron Bell, Archie Benge, Harvey Coster, Bailey Gallagher, Thomas Legge and Finley Sly.

Ryan Battershell and Joe Mitchell found the back of the net for the Yellows as they eliminated Division Two rivals Avonvale United in a 2-0 triumph.

Also advancing were the Under 15 Blues, who are looking to retain their cup title. They defeated Malmesbury Youth Tornadoes 4-0.

Both Under 14 teams were eliminated. The Blues lost 3-0 to FC Chippenham Youth White, while the Yellows were beaten 5-0 by Swindon Supermarine J.

While the Under 13 Blues' 5-4 defeat to Liden Community was an eventful one, the Yellows were overpowered 10-1 by Robins Red.

The Under 12 Whites, victorious in the preliminary round, fell to an 8-0 loss against Stratton Juniors Lions.

In league action, the Under 12 Yellows recorded their first win of the campaign as they overran FC Chippenham Youth Trojans 6-0.
