Six of the best get Under 16 Blues off the mark

Sunday 17th September 2017

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 16 Blues bounced back from a heavy opening day defeat in emphatic fashion as they defeated Northside Athletic 6-1.

Braces from Michael Christmas-Boulton and Benjamin Evans, and further strikes from Ilario Williams and James Young meant they put last week's loss firmly behind them and provide the team a platform on which to build in North Wilts League Division Two.

The Under 12 Blues registered their first win at the second time of asking too, triumphing 7-3 away from home against Fairford and Lechlade Celts. Noah Cranswick-Coates was in clinical form as he scored four, while Evan Bexon-Shaw (2) and Alec Gawthropp contributed goals to the convincing win too.

Elsewhere, four teams made it two wins out of two.

Landon Golding scored a hat-trick as the Under 15 Blues hit five without reply at home against FC Calne. Nat Bell and Frederick Merrett rounded off the scoring.

The Under 15 Yellows were big winners as well. They maintained their 100% record by thrashing FC Abbey Meads Rangers 5-2 courtesy of Callum Flay's hat trick and further goals from, Joshua Irving and Kieren Kirby.

Victors by a narrow margin last week, the Under 14 Blues had a more straightforward Sunday as they defeated FC Chippenham Youth Blues 4-0 in Division One. Rory Ryan found the net twice, while Otis Lewis and Matthew Purcell also got in on the act.

On Saturday, the Under 12 Girls came back from two goals down to defeat Trowbridge Wanderers Youth 3-2 in the Wiltshire County Girls League. Poppy Wannell netted another two, and Lauren Gratton provided Bassett's other goal. 'Keeper Amber Harris had a hand in sealing victory too as she saved a penalty.

Both Under 18 teams were playing their opening games of the season, and had mixed fortunes.

The Blues saw off Stratton Juniors 3-1 in Division One thanks to strikes from Thomas Phillips and Finley Sly, while, despite goals from Ryan Battershell, Callum Bridges and Jack Coward, the Yellows fell by the odd goal in seven against Marlborough Youth in Division Two.

Also losing by just a single goal were the Under 14 Yellows, who lost 3-2 to Lydiard Millicent Juniors. Triston McKay and Samuel Osei-Bonsu were Bassett's scorers.

Leonard Masters scored the Under 12 Whites' consolation goal in their 6-1 defeat against Marlborough Youth Tigers.

The Under 13 Blues were in Wiltshire County Cup preliminary round action, falling to a heavy 9-3 loss against Bishops Cannings Youth Fireblades.
