Packer wondergoal delivers first victory

Royal Wootton Bassett Town recorded their first league win of the campaign thanks to a stunning Sam Packer strike as they defeated Brackley Town Saints 1-0.

Sam Packer's eighteenth minute wondergoal - struck brilliantly from the edge of the box into the top corner - and a sterling rearguard effort finally delivered Royal Wootton Bassett Town's first Hellenic League Premier Division of the campaign as they prevailed 1-0 against Brackley Town Saints.

The visiting Saints will arguably feel hard done by as, led by the league's early leading scorer Josh Bowden, they put their hosts under a significant amount of pressure, especially in the second half.

Bassett, on the other hand, will care little as to whether they deserved the three points or not as they ended a seven game winless run to begin the season, a stretch that saw them draw three games - including away at Brackley on opening day when they recovered from a two goal deficit to claim a point - and fall to four defeats against the division's current top four sides.

It's now imperative for Rich Hunter's side that they use this victory as a springboard and jump start a campaign that has stuttered off the mark.

With this win grounded out, now is the time to kick on.
