Ladies guaranteed runners-up

Monday 17th April 2017

Congratulations to Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies who are guaranteed a runners-up finish in Division One of the Gloucestershire County Women's League!

While Bassett were awarded their penultimate fixture of the season against champions-elect St Nicholas Reserves, a 1-1 draw against Forest of Dean Ladies means that third place Almondsbury UWE now have no chance of catching Becky Gammon's team.

A second place finish is an outstanding achievement for Bassett's Ladies' side, who have lost just once in the league all season, with that loss coming in November. And they will be hoping it will be enough to earn promotion to the South West Women's Football League for next year.

The Ladies have made a significant amount of progress since the team was revived eight years ago. In their first two seasons, they finished runners-up in Division Three of the Gloucestershire County League, before following that up with second place in Division Two in 2011-12.

And steady progress in the top division has culminated in their brilliant 2016-17 campaign.

They still have the chance to add silverware too.

On Sunday they face Forest of Dean - a side they have beaten 5-1 and 3-0 in the league - in the semi finals of the Gordon Perrett Memorial Cup. That game takes place at GFA Almondsbury, with kick off at 11am.

The winners will take on St Nicholas Reserves or Almondsbury UWE in the final.
