Bassett on course for a cup treble

Sunday 2nd April 2017

It was an outstanding weekend for Royal Wootton Bassett Town's youth teams as three sides booked their places in cup finals.

The Under 16 Girls, Under 14 Blues and Under 11 Blues all triumphed in their last four encounters to move just one step away from getting their hands on some silverware.

On Saturday, the Under 16 Girls were in sensational form, defeating Westbury Youth Amazon 5-0 in the Wiltshire County Women's and Girls League Cup.

Bassett dominated a Westbury side who are currently unbeaten in the league, and won through thanks to a Sophie Roberts hat trick and further goals from Lois Beer and Hollie Timbrell.

They are now in with a shot at a cup double, having already qualified for the Wiltshire County FA Cup final, where they will take on Westbury.

The Under 14 Blues booked their place in the North Wilts League Cup final with a dramatic, hard-fought 3-2 win after extra time against Swindon Supermarine R.

The clash between Division One's top two team did not disappoint, with Bassett edging a thrilling tie thanks to goals from Sidney Skippen, Daniel Warre and Benjamin Patey, who chose a great moment to score his first of the season.

They will face Division Two champions Croft Junior Yellow in the final after they also defeated FC Calne by the odd goal in five after extra time.

Joining those two teams in making it to a final are the Under 11 Blues, who saw off Highworth Town Juniors H.

Congratulations to all three teams! Here's hoping they'll enjoy one more win in their respective cup competitions.

Meanwhile, the Under 14 Yellows were in league action and finished their season with a 2-1 defeat against Lydiard Youth Black. Jack Timbrell was on target in his side's seventh single goal defeat of the campaign.
