Trio set for cup semi finals

Monday 27th March 2017

Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Under 11 Blue, Under 14 Blue and Under 16 Girls teams are both in cup semi final action this weekend.

Under 14 Blues

The Under 14 Blues take on Swindon Supermarine R in the North Wilts League Cup semi-final this Sunday.Their battle for a place in the League Cup showpiece takes place at Beversbrook in Calne, with the game kicking off at 10am.

The tie pits the top two in Division One against each other, and should be an exciting clash.

Bassett, cup winners two seasons ago and losing semi-finalists last year, have scored 28 goals and conceded just once en-route to the last four.

They opened up with an 11-1 first round victory against Bassett Yellow before thumping Wanborough Juniors Yellow 12-0 in the second round.

That set up a home tie against Castle Combe Colts in the quarter finals, which was won 5-0.

Supermarine have enjoyed a similarly comfortable run to the semi-finals.

In the opening round they defeated Lydiard Youth Black 8-0 and followed that up with a 9-1 away win against Pewsey Vale Youth and 8-0 triumph against Croft Junior Blue.

They do currently sit six points above Bassett in the league, though have played three games more.

Bassett inflicted Supermarine's only defeat so far this season when goals from Nathaniel Bell and Oliver Case secured a 2-0 victory back in October.

The winners will take on FC Calne - currently fifth in Division One - or unbeaten Division Two champions Croft Junior Yellow in the final.

Under 16 Girls

Meanwhile, on Saturday morning, the Under 16 Girls welcome Westbury Youth Amazons to the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground as they square off in the last four of the Wiltshire Women's and Girls League Cup (10.30am kick off).

This is another tie featuring teams sitting at the top of the league, with Westbury currently nine points ahead of second place Bassett. Their only league meeting so far this season saw the Amazons triumph 4-2.

Bassett defeated Melksham Town Youth 19-0 in their quarter final, while Westbury saw off Bath City Youth, winning 4-1.

The winners will take on FC Chippenham Youth or Frome Town Ladies in the final.

Under 11 Blues

The Under 11 Blues will take on Highworth Town Juniors 'H' in their North Wilts League Cup final four encounter (10am kick off, Gerard Buxton Sports Ground).

They overcame Robins in difficult, windy conditions to reach the semi final stage.

In earlier rounds, Bassett saw off Lydiard Youth Hammers, Blunsdon and Ramsbury Juniors.

The winners of Sunday's game will take on Stratton Youth or FC Chippenham Spartans in the final.
