Under 12 Blues move back on top

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blues reclaimed top spot in North Wilts League Division Three with a convincing 4-1 home victory against Liden Community.

Their deadly attacking duo of Jacob Rendell-Haines, who netted a hat-trick, and Joey Warren did the damage as they got back to winning ways following a 0-0 draw against third place Lydiard Millicent Juniors in their last outing.

With Wroughton Youth Blue inactive, Bassett moved to the top of the table with a two point lead, having played a game more.

It looks set to be a thrilling three way fight for the title, with Lydiard - eight points behind Bassett with three games in hand - still in the race too.

Close encounters have been the speciality for the Under 14 Yellows this season. And they were involved in yet another game decided by a single goal - their eighth so far in fifteen league games!

On six such occasions Bassett have wound up on the losing end. However, this time goals from Adam Carter, Eddie Knight and Jack Timbrell secured a 3-2 triumph away against Ashton Keynes.

The Under 16 Yellows' hopes of a top two finish in Division Three suffered a blow as they lost 3-1 at home against Liden Community. Joe Mitchell scored his fifteenth of the season for Bassett.

Also losing out in the race for a runners-up or better finish were the Under 18s who were defeated 3-2 away at rivals Stratton Youth. With that loss, Bassett slipped to fourth in Division Two.

Meanwhile, Sidney Skippen was on target for the Under 15s, but that wasn't enough as they lost 6-1 against Croft Junior Red.
