Fortunes change for the better for Under 14 Yellows

Sunday 8th January 2017

Five times this season Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 14 Yellows have felt the agonising frustration of losing by a single goal. However, they started the New Year with the satisfying feeling of seeings their opponent suffer defeat by the odd goal as they triumphed 2-1 against Tetbury Town.

On target were Joshua Carey and Tom Warren. Only their second league victory of the season, the three points pull Bassett closer to the sides occupying the mid-table spots in North Wilts League Division Three, and hopefully will provide the team with some much needed momentum as they seek to avoid the bottom two places.

The Under 14 Blues, Under 13 Yellows and Under 12 Blues have all been used to winning this season. And they started 2017 with victories.

Goals from Sidney Skippen (2), Nathaniel Bell and Billy Saunders helped the elder of the two teams to a 4-2 win away at Castle Combe Colts.

It was another big victory for the Under 13 Yellows as Sebastian Turner hit four and Samuel Osei Bonsu struck a hat trick in a 9-1 thrashing of Liden Community White.

Meanwhile, the Under 12 Blues defeated Highworth Town Juniors 'H' 5-1.

On Saturday, the Under 16 Girls recorded a 6-0 win at home against Frome Town Ladies. Ellie Hayward led the way with a hat trick, while Sophie Roberts netted a brace and Lois Beer rounded off the scoring.

Both the Under 18s and 13 Blues started the calendar year with draws.

The former's 2-2 draw with Stratton Youth thanks to goals from Ryan Gillie and James Russell means they are within two points of Division Two leaders Ashton Keynes Youth, while the latter's 1-1 draw with Castle Combe White saw them slip three points behind second place FC Chippenham White, who were victorious.

Elsewhere, the Under 16 Yellows lost out in a seven goal thriller against Tetbury Town. Jack Coward, Aaron Griffiths and Joe Mitchell were on target for Bassett.

Seven goals were also scored in the Under 15 Blues' visit to Lydiard Millicent Juniors. However, it was the hosts who triumphed 5-2, goals from Benjamin Evans and Sam Singha not being enough for Bassett.

The Under 12 Yellows fell to a 10-4 loss at Oaksey.
