Team efforts take Under 13s to pair of triumphs

Four different scorers were on target as Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 13 Blues outlasted second place FC Chippenham White to record a fine 4-3 victory.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the break, but Bassett managed to claim the points with a strong second half showing.

Scoring for Bassett, who lost narrowly to Chippenham in the North Wilts League Cup, a fortnight ago, were James Johnson, Otis Lewis, Jack Osbaldeston and Rory Ryan.

The win moves the Blues up to third in North Wilts League Division One, and should they triumph in the game in hand they possess, they will move just one point behind Chippenham.

The Under 13 Yellows are riding high in the league too, and they moved tied second in Division Four with a 3-1 win against Lydiard Millicent Juniors Green thanks to goals from Samuel Case, Harry Collins and Daniel Seal.

Also up to third are the Under 14 Blues, who edged out FC Calne by the odd goal in three. Nathaniel Bell and Frederick Merrett were on target in the first half for Bassett. While Calne got one back after the restart, Bassett held on to preserve their 100% league record.

Falling a place were the Under 12 Blues, who were leapfrogged by opponents Lydiard Millicent. Their previous two games had been 3-3 draws, but Bassett were a goal short of making that a hat-trick as visitors Lydiard prevailed.

They were not alone in falling to defeat by the narrowest of margins. For the fourth time in eight league games so far this season, the Under 14 Yellows lost by the odd goal, this time going down 3-2 against Cirencester Town.

While their hard luck continued, the Under 12 Yellows ended theirs with a 2-1 victory – their first win since the opening game of the season - against Wroughton Youth White.

It's now six straight wins for the Under 16 Girls after they waltzed to a 9-0 thrashing of Swindon Spitfires. Ellie Hayward led the way with four, Sophie Roberts struck a hat-trick and Hollie Timbrell bagged a brace. They face Wiltshire County Girls League leaders Westbury Youth Amazons next week, and a win will see Bassett pull level at the top.

The Under 18s remain second in North Wilts League Division Two despite dropping to a 3-1 defeat against Hungerford Town Juniors, as James Handley's goal proved to be only a consolation effort.

In Division One, the Under 15 Blues remain in the bottom two after a 7-0 loss against Highworth Town Juniors H.
