Royal Wootton Bassett Town manager Paul Braithwaite has bolstered his defence with the signing of Jamie Richards from Division One West Purton.

The Bassett boss described the 25-year-old, who can slot in at either centre half or full back, as "a great addition to the club."

"At 25 Jamie's a senior Hellenic League player, who will make the transition to football in the Premier Division," Braithwaite said.

"He's a player who will always give you 100% in terms of dedication, which is just what we want at the club."

"I know it was hard for him to leave Purton, but we're chuffed to get him."

After attending Cirencester Academy, Richards joined the Red House outfit, for who he made over 200 appearances. His breakthrough season came in 2009-10 when he started all of Purton's league games.

A season later Richards played a key role in helping Purton reach the final of the Supplementary Cup, while he earned the club's Player of the Year award in 2012-13 before being named Supporters' Player of the Year in 2013-14.
